Mountains ~~~ PAN ~~~ Braindead

9pm (doors at 8pm)
$7
Conundrum
Mountains' music is defined by slow builds, and subtle transformations, textures and melodic lines that evolve in a variety of ways to create grand soundscapes and acutely detailed compositions. Based at the innovative Thrill Jockey label, Mountains encompass everything from the analog electronic sound of Air Museum, to the gentle warmth and improvised grandeur of Choral. Mountains are utterly singular in their ability to combine such varied and complex sources into such delicately detailed songs of perceived simple pastoral ambience.
Seamlessly blending contemplative, anthemic songwriting with pop accessibility, PAN writes epic, instrumental music that aims to transcend the post-rock genre. Thunderous guitars collide with percussive orchestral swells creating a memorable soundtrack for the young and young-at-heart.
Braindead is a dynamic instrumental trio based out of columbia, sc. Their spaced out chaos, interwoven between floating and often improvised ambience, is directly influenced by the next generation and the cosmos. Hail Sagan.

Living in a Material World (Part 1)
Please join us for another very special Monday Night Music Documentary at Conundrum Music Hall! FREE ADMISSION!
Martin Scorsese has, throughout his career, made several labor of love documentaries mainly on the subject of another of his passions, music. In this one his focus is on 'the quiet' Beatle. Harrison was always seen as completely secondary to Lennon and McCartney. However, in this film , Scorsese shows the complexity of his character. We see his very important contribution to The Beatles, not only through his own song writing, but also the elements that essentially made many of the Lennon/McCartney compositions.
We follow him through his exploration of, particularly, Indian mysticism and philosophy, and how he integrated this into his everyday life. His contribution to the film industry is summarily gone over, from his involvement with Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1974), through to the creation of the production company, Handmade Films, that became involved in some of the great British films of the 1980's.
What is apparent throughout the film is Scorsese's clear love of the music. Using still photographs, there are many sections that fill the three and a half hours* with Harrison's songs. Scorsese uses these throughout, and presents them chronologically, so that we are able to witness the evolution of Harrison's song writing.
A clear documentary made by someone passionate about the subject, the film paints a picture of a very interesting man, who lived through much change around and within himself. This is a very well researched, well constructed story, and whilst long, does not seem that way whilst viewing.
Cartoons at 7pm, George Harrison film starts 7:30pm. Drinks and snacks available.
* The first 2 hours will be shown tonight. The last 90 minutes will be shown on Monday March 4.

The Mother*er with the Hat: Trustus Theatre

February 8-23, 2013 INCLUDING February 14, 2013
Struggles with addiction, friendship, love and the challenges of adulthood are at the center of the story. Jackie, a petty drug dealer, is just out of prison and trying to stay clean. He's also still in love with his coke-addicted childhood sweetheart, Veronica. Ralph D. is Jackie's too-smooth, slightly slippery sponsor. He's married to the bitter and disaffected Victoria, who, by the way, has the hots for Jackie. And then there's Julio, Jackie's cousin … a stand-up, "stand by me" kind of guy. However, when Jackie comes home with flowers to find a strange man’s hat by his and Veronica’s bed, these characters careen forward as Jackie goes in search of the hat’s owner. What follows is an examination of trust, lust, loyalty, and true love. Find out about show times and ticket information here!

*PART OF THE COLUMBIA JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL*

A Matter of Size is an Israeli comedy (yes, comedy!) like nothing you've seen before, a hilarious and heart-warming tale about about a coming out of a different kind: four overweight guys who learn to love themselves through the Japanese sport of sumo wrestling!

Herzl (Itzik Cohen) has been struggling with his weight ever since he was young, and his overbearing mother made it no easier on him. His friends Aharon (Dvir Benedek) and Gidi (Alon Dahan) struggle with the issue of weight in their personal lives as well; from fear of losing a spouse to a "thinner" man, to coming out as a gay bear.
